Ohio Health Insurance Review: Ann Williams,
Columbus, OH
This topic is very important to myself as well as my family. I
will give my own personal insight on several different health insurance
companies. From the first time I've had to deal with the health insurance
industry, not even out of high school to present. I hope my personal
experience's will let others know they are not alone, as well as give them some
helpful information.
My first experience started in high school when I was involved in horrific auto
accident on interstate 270 in Columbus, Ohio. I was under my mothers insurance
Medical Mutual of Ohio. She had it through her employer and all was fine till I
found out from my lawyer that if they were not reimbursed the deductible they
would go after my parents. I was a bit confused the accident was not my fault, I
was the victim. Yet I was told that my medical bills exceeded her limited policy
coverage.
Than as I entered in to the work force, I knew I had to find a job with health
coverage as my top priority. My next experience was with
Anthem Blue Cross Blue
Shield. I had them for many years even after I got married and began a family.
We had full coverage including dental and eye care. Their deductibles were very
reasonable. Than lighting struck again. Another non-fault auto accident on
Interstate 71 not far from Riverside hospital. Thirteen years had passed since
the one that almost took my life. Now I had become disabled.
With my new injuries combined with my old and unable to work, to provide health
insurance for my family took its tool on my marriage as well. Now a single
mother with two small children to raise we had no other options but to enter in
to the system for health care. Medicaid in the state of Ohio was allot easier to
deal with back then than it is now. Medicare also has changed allot and not for
the good. (I wish I’d stuck with my Anthem policy, but I made the mistake of
thinking Medicaid would be better.)
I have always felt that the government had it backwards. For people who paid in
to the system as well as the elderly or very young who can't work should receive
Medicaid. Those who have the ability to work yet are low income should Not be
put on Medicare. Now that our government is demanding that everyone have health
care. There are too many people out there who are milking the Medicaid system
dry yet they have the ability to work.
Luckily earlier this year I got re-married and my new husband has group health
insurance. We were first with Cigna HMO which worked out well at the time for
our family till they raised the premiums after just being on it for two months.
Than his company changed ownership and a new health insurer took over. I was a
bit skeptical about our new coverage. We now have Humana HMO Premier which also
has dental and eye care. Their deductibles are reasonable and I have not had any
complaints from my doctors.
After having to pay for my Medicare coverage for most of 2008 and 2009 and they
didn't pay much of my medical bills I was happy when I was able to drop my part
B and D. It was costing us more for me to be covered by two health insurances
when it shouldn't even when we met the deductibles. Which for Medicare have
increased ridiculously over the years. Our government health care system is
screwed up. All I know is I‘m glad I‘ve always had some form of coverage,
without any coverage I might not be as healthy as I am at this point in my life.
